The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners Association celebrated the graduation of 23 interns on April 24 at the Association’s chapter meeting and potluck held at Grace Community Church in Bellville. The 14-week class was taught by Faye Beery, Certified Master Gardener, with the assistance of fellow master gardeners Cathi Pentergraft, Paul McClendon and Sandy Rhodes.

Topics covered included plant growth, soils, fertilizers, diagnosing plant health, insect management, propagation, pruning, vegetable gardening, fruits and nut production, landscaping and turf grasses.

The graduates successfully completed an exam during their last class, and will volunteer 50 hours of work on BMGA approved projects in order to become eligible to be certified by the Texas A&M AgriLIFE Extension Service of the Texas A&M University System.

As County Extension Service volunteers, Bluebonnet Master Gardeners give their time, talents and knowledge to communities in Austin, Colorado, Fayette and Washington counties.

Next year’s class will begin in January 2019. For more information, go to https://txmg.org/bluebonnet/ or call the Austin County Extension Office at 979-865-2072.
