Henrietta Krchnak

Henrietta was born to Martin and Francis Surovcak on July 29, 1928. Her soul was called to rest the morning of July 20, 2018, just nine days before her 90th birthday.

To many of us she was known as Memaw. Her early life tending to a small family farm, with two brothers and two sisters cultivated her love for growing things. Although they didn't have much, she would speak of fond memories riding their moo-cow, during her childhood years, when times were tough. At an early age, she bore two children, Betty and Arnold. During the 1950s she moved to Sealy and began filling her home with the laughter and joy of family and friends. Memaw lived with an open her heart and welcomed many, putting into action the words, "love thy neighbor as thyself." Her knowledge and wisdom abounds to this day through the lives of those she touched. Her love for God's green earth still remains through her luscious lawn of St. Augustine grass she watered in the evenings. Memaw would tell us when her plants needed a "drink" or if they needed a "haircut" at pruning time.

She taught about picking berries, baking dewberry pies, how to barbecue, how to heal a fever and how to pray. There wasn't much a will like hers couldn't do. Her chicken and dumplings recipe is sure to be passed on, too. Not only was Memaw a loving mother and fruitful homemaker, she was a woman of great faith, following Christ, resting daily in His promises, leading many on the paths of righteousness. May her light continue to shine for the greater glory of God.

Henrietta is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Krchnak, parents, Martin and Francis Surovcak, and brothers, Frankie and Willie Surovcak.

She is survived by her sisters, Marie Stastny and Francis Wolf, daughter, Betty Brasher, son, Arnold Stastny, six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Henrietta's celebration of life began with a rosary the evening of Tuesday July 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., followed by funeral services at 10 a.m. the morning of Wednesday July 25, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Sealy. Interment followed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Sealy.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel located at 768 Fourth Street, Sealy, Texas 77474, 979-885-3535, www.knesekfuneralhome.com.
