Gloria Jean Blase Reed, age 77, of Sealy, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 9. She was born March 5, 1943, in Rosenberg, Texas, to Herbert and Earline Blase.
She spent her early childhood in Rosenberg where she enjoyed riding horses, volleyball, and spending time with her extended family at their Fulshear farm. Her family moved to Sealy where she graduated from Sealy High School in 1961, then went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University. Then she became a high school English teacher in Angleton and then a lead executive secretary for Shell Oil in Houston. It was at that time she met and married Thomas Jeffrey Reed, her husband of almost 53 years. After her children were old enough, she returned to education as a Title I coordinator in Brazos ISD for 14 years.
Jean (aka “Granny”) was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed a variety of games, gardening, and baking. She especially enjoyed decorating her unique Christmas cookies which hung from the tree each year. These were always a hit with her children, grandchildren, and many others.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents and sister Donna Blase Hayes. She is survived by her husband Tom of Sealy; her three sons Chris and wife Beth of Pearland, Kieth and wife Suzanne of Magnolia, and Chip and wife Stephanie of Sealy; grandchildren Travis and Kayla of Pearland, Austin, Ethan, and Connor of Magnolia, and Samantha and Alivia of Sealy.
