Family land heritage ceremony held

The Texas Agriculture Commission held its 42nd Family Land Heritage Ceremony on November 7 at the state capitol in Austin. Sixty-four families were recognized for retaining their properties for 100 and 150 years. The families recognized were from all parts of Texas.

Three families from Austin County were recognized:

• 4T Ranch near Kenney. Founded in 1915. Current owners are Troy Tesch and Dorothy Tesch.

• Ashorn Farm west of Brenham near Wesley. Founded in 1910. Current owner is Lillian Wilhelm.

• Marek Farm & Ranch near New Ulm. Founded in 1910. Current owners Harold G. Marek Sr. and Ben D. Marek.

The Master of Ceremonies was Bob Tallman who is known for his voice that he uses to entertain and educate people about rodeos. The certificates were handed out by

Commissioner Sid Miller. He told each family he was pleased to add their names to the

Honor Roll of Family Land Heritage recipients. The recipients and guests were entertained by Official Cowboy Poet of Texas Red Steagall.
