After scoring on all seven first-half possessions, the Faith Academy Knights held a 50-0 lead and forced the end of the game by way of the mercy rule over the Alvin Livingstone Lions to pick up their first district victory of the season.
Maury Cano opened the scoring with a 20-yard run capped by a Blaze Byler rush for a 7-0 lead. Byler scored the next touchdown, on a 13-yard run, but the ensuing point-after try failed and the score sat at 13-0.
Cano found pay dirt again from 34 yards out and Kaleb Shepherd supplied the PAT run before scoring a touchdown himself on an 8-yard run with a Nathan Figueroa pass to Shepherd making the scoreboard operator put the score at 27-0 in favor of the Knights after one quarter of play.
Shepherd crossed the goal line again to open the scoring in the second quarter with a 17-yard rush and a Figueroa kick. Byler then supplied a 75-yard jaunt to the end zone with Figueroa finding Jacob Henderson for the PAT. Henderson then threw a 47-yard pass to Figueroa who kicked the extra point himself to push the Faith lead to 50-0, ending the game there.
When it was all said and done, Byler accumulated 90 yards on his three rushes for a pair of scores as well as a PAT run. Shepherd ran five times for 65 yards, two scores and a PAT of the catching and running variety and Cano scored on both of his two rushes which totaled 54 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Shepherd led the way with seven tackles but was followed closely by his brother Roy Shepherd who tallied six as well as recovered a fumble. Byler supplied five tackles, as well as a pair of onside kick recoveries, and Figueroa pulled down an interception for the Knights.
This week, the 0-4 Victoria Faith Academy Cougars will make the trip to Bellville for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday on SAB Field at Faith Academy where the hosting Knights will sit at 2-2 overall.
