The Faith Academy Track Team was in Panther Stadium, Midway ISD, last Friday and Saturday competing in the TAPPS State Meet. Brianna Gallaher, a junior, captured her third straight title as state champion in the 3,200-meter and her second straight title in the 1,600-meter with a commanding lead in both races. Josh Poorman, a freshman, was eighth in the 3,200 and fifth in the 1,600 with a hard-fought finish and an impressive time of 5:13.
The 4x400 relay finished fifth with all four runners, Roy Shepherd, Pierce Newcomb, Miguel Guerrero and Poorma, fighting to the bitter end and giving personal bests splits of 57 seconds and an overall personal best time of 3:51.
Brody Schiller, a junior, running the hurdles for his first year was coached by Brocquel Williams. He was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best 45.34 and sixth in the 110-meter with hard-fought finishes in both races.
The sprint relay finished seventh with Roy Shepherd, Pierce Newcomb, Brody Schiller and Miguel Guerrero. The 800-meter relay with Roy Shepherd, Pierce Newcomb, Landen Bright, freshman, and Miguel Guerrero finished seventh and they posted another personal best time of 1:42.79. The boys' team finished ninth in the team standings out of 25 teams.
“This was the team’s best season in many years,” Head Coach Ann Howarth said.
