Faith Academy students visit Holocaust Museum

Posted

Faith Academy seniors went on their final field trip to the Holocaust Museum of Houston in late January.

The permanent facility is undergoing a $49 million renovation so the tour was in the museum’s temporary location. Although much of the interactive, immersive elements were missing, the docent led the students through an almost two-hour narration of the timeline of the Holocaust. The tour ended with a virtual “conversation” with a Houston Holocaust survivor in “New Dimensions in Testimony.”

The students were able to ask questions on any subject and he would answer them based on a database of 1,600 questions previously answered and recorded. The students asked everything from “Have you returned to Poland since the war?” to “What is your favorite color?”

Although a difficult and sensitive subject, the visit was fascinating and many of the students expressed interest in going back when the renovations are complete next year.
