Faith Academy softball back in action

After a week of rain outs last week, Faith was finally able to get back on the field. The Lady Knights began their week taking on Shiner Lady Comanches that turned into a pitching duel. Maddy Gonzales only gave up two hits, struck out seven and walked no one. However, one of the hits was a solo home run in the fifth inning which proved to be the winning run. Faith had plenty of chances to score but could not get the hit to push across a run. Shiner sent all three pitchers to the mound that stopped any momentum that was started by the Knights. The final score ended up 1-0. That gave the Lady Knights their first loss in two years.

Faith Academy then traveled to Smithville to take on the Lady Tigers. It was a close game all the way to the end. The Lady Tigers struck first by getting a single from the leadoff batter followed by a double from the number two batter. That plated their only run of the game. Pitcher Destiny Interiano settled in after that and shut them down the rest of the game. The Tigers scratched six hits and Interiano struck out six batters. However, Faith struggled with being patient at the plate. The Smithville pitcher took advantage of that. The Lady Knights finally settled down and was able score a run in the fourth inning after Reagan Majewski led off with a triple. The second run was not scored until the seventh inning on a wild pitch. The offense struggled but the Lady Knight found a way to win.

“They are not all going to be pretty, so we will take them how we can get them,” Head Coach Kenneth Woodley said.

The Lady Knights ended their long week of softball with a three game round robin at their home field. The Lady Knights first game was against East Bernard JV. The Faith offense was still not up to where it has been in the past but was making strides to getting back on track. They scored two runs in the first, two in the third, one in the fifth and one in the sixth inning. That led to an 8-0 victory. The Lady Knights had 10 hits. Regan Woodley went 3-3 while Jasmyn Trejo and Maddy Gonzales had two hits each. Maddy Gonzales pitched a one hitter and struck out 12 to get the victory.

The second game was against San Marcos Hill Country. Faith exploded in the first inning by scoring 10 runs. Destiny Interiano, Jasmyn Trejo, Marissa Przyborski, Regan Woodley, Reagan Majewski and Maddy Gonzales all drove in runs in the first inning. Maddy Gonzales also picked up her third home run of the season. Destiny Interiano took care of the San Marcos offense by only allowing two hits and striking out six batters. The Lady Knights cruised to a 12-1 victory.

The final game was against Bryan Brazos Christian. The Lady Knights again exploded with 10 runs in the first inning. Faith Academy had four different girls, Destiny Interiano, Maddy Gonzales, Jasmyn Trejo and Reagan Majewski all hitting home runs in the first inning. Gonzales and Interiano shared the pitching duties only giving up one hit between them. The Lady Knights closed out the long week of softball with a convincing 19-0 victory.

The win brought the Lady Knights overall record to 6-1 on the season.
