The Faith Academy Knights came up on the short end of things on both the boys’ and girls’ basketball courts last week, both at the hands of the Robert Beren Academy Stars.
Monday afternoon saw the teams from Bellville hit the road with the Lady Knights kicking things off with their second meeting against the Stars already this year.
The Lady Knights got off to a very slow start and trailed 10-2 after the first quarter. The game was very physical and very intense and by the time halftime came around, Faith Academy had fallen behind, 17-6.
However, it was in the third quarter where the Lady Knights supplied great defense which helped get them back into the game, ultimately tying things at 19 apiece. Before the quarter ended though, Robert Beren found another spark and held a 28-19 lead heading into the final frame of play.
Despite a 32-25 final score, the Faith defense showed bright spots as well as Addie Kuespert, who led the team in scoring with seven points. Chesney Johnston, Ella Polston and Haley Guzman all finished with four-point efforts and Maddie Odom, Gabby Yates and Rachel Kuespert all contributed two points.
On the boys’ side of things, the Knights finished the opening quarter trailing by only a pair although the Stars’ second quarter gave them a 35-12 advantage at halftime. Down the stretch, Robert Beren Academy only added onto its lead, eventually taking the game by a 55-19 decision.
Pierce Newcomb was Faith Academy’s leading scorer with eight and had Luke Potter (6 points) and Nathan Figueroa (4 points) not far behind him.
The Knights dropped to 0-9 on the season and 0-5 in district play entering this week of play with a home game against the Oaks Adventist set for Tuesday. They’ll close this week with a trip to Cypress Covenant Academy Friday evening at 6 p.m.
The Lady Knights also hosted the Oaks earlier this week and will have Robert Beren Academy coming back to town Thursday evening for their week of competition.
Both Faith Academy teams’ last games will come next week, Feb. 4, on the road with the girls heading to Aristoi Classical in Katy while the boys travel to Southwest Christian Academy.
