The Faith Academy Track and Field team competed Friday and Saturday in Bastrop at the TAPPS 1A-2A South Region Championship.
Field event prelims were Friday afternoon and at the conclusion of the discus, Kaleb Shepherd was in fourth place and Cameron Crawford was in eighth. The top four in each event qualify for the State Championship.
During Saturday morning’s finals, Crawford threw a personal best 96’ 6” on his second attempt to move up to third place, extending his season. Other qualifiers were Brianna Gallaher, who had a commanding lead in the 3,200- and 1,600-meter runs and placed first in both events.
Maddie Odom was third in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the 100-meter version. Roy Shepherd, Miguel Guerrero, Taylor Hetzel and Pierce Newcomb placed third in the 4x200-meter relay, running a personal-best time before coming in fourth in the 4x100.
These seven athletes will compete in Waco, May 3 and 4 at the TAPPS 1A State Meet.
Eric Carlin was right on the verge of qualifying in his races, supplying a personal-best 11:56 in the 3,200 to earn fifth before achieving another personal record of 5:30 in the 1,600, making him sixth overall in the region. Similarly, Kaleb Shepherd finished sixth in the discus.
