Retired Lt. Col. David Hoyt Huffines Jr. 88 of Midway, Texas, passed away on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, in Madisonville, Texas, surrounded by his family and friends. A celebration of David’s life is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday Nov. 3, at Elwood Baptist Church with Bro. Glenn Connor and Bro. Sonny Rice officiating.

David was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Abilene, Texas, to David and Nona Fae Huffines Sr. David was a career Air Force officer serving in the Korean War, The Vietnam War, and consulting in the Gulf War. He was honorably discharged by the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a lieutenant colonel having received both a meritorious service medal and Air Force commendation medal.

In addition, David worked in the oil and gas industry, received a bachelor of business and education earning a permanent teaching certification, a real estate license, a pilot’s license, started his own company, retired from the Internal Revenue Service, and retired again from Edwards County Sheriff’s department. He hated being idle.

David was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Wayne Huffines; and his daughter, Debbie Huffines Scott. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia (Marks) Huffines; his daughter, Julya Hoover Rebstock and her husband Tre’; and his grandchildren, Kathleen (Katie) Huffines, Zachary Rebstock and Caleb Rebstock.
