Austin County is one case of COVID-19 away from 500, but according to the state the number of active cases has started to decline again.
“DSHS (Texas Department of State Health Services) shows Austin County at 33 active cases and a total of 499. We still have nine deaths associated with COVID,” County Judge Tim Lapham reported.
The 33 cases are down from 45 last week but still higher than the 18 the week before that. The number of deaths remains at nine for the last two weeks.
As has been the problem throughout the pandemic, the state’s way of recording cases appears skewed. Its charts show Austin County having a negative eight cases on Sept. 22. According to the DSHS, there were 14 cases reported on Sept. 17 and nine on Sept. 25.
