Austin County commissioners approved an agreement Monday to spend almost $200,000 on a new emergency medical services facility.
Burns Architecture LLC will build the facility at Atchison and Highway 90, purchased from Austin County Emergency Services District for a fixed sum of $195,000, which includes $137,230 for design, $7,750 for bidding and $49,070 for construction administration.
“The scope of work will cover all phases: design, bidding and construction administration and will include architecture, civil engineering, plumbing design and fire protection engineering,” according to a memo issued by Burns Architecture.
County officials previously were negotiating with the city of Sealy to construct a building on Rexville Road between the police department and fire station. The land was appraised at $145,000. While no one announced publicly why the county pulled out of the deal, concerns were expressed about drainage and the history of flooding in the area.
