The Austin County Fair kicked off Friday night with lots of cute kids, happy parents, belt buckles and cowboy hats.
The fair continues at Margaret Chesley Park in Bellville through Oct. 14.
“The first weekend was wonderful,” said Kim Quinney, facilities director for the Austin County Fair. “We were so excited to see so many people out here enjoying the activities. We are anxious to see everyone come out and see all the improvements we’ve made. It’s going to be nothin’ but fun.”
One family is traveling from Indiana just to see country music singer Aaron Watson. They were already planning a vacation to Austin but rerouted to book a few nights in Austin County. The fair has become more popular in recent years and expanded to 10 days this year.
“It’s been an experience so far,” Quinney said. “We’re trying to be adaptable and patient. We want everyone to have fun. We’re super proud of our rodeo and our entertainment.”
