Cougars make a splash in Corpus Christi

The Brazos Cougars cross country team competed in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Splash Cross Country Meet on Saturday.

The varsity girls' team placed 16th in the 1A-4A division with 490 points but finished as the top Class 2A school in the race.

Individually, Makinzy Kneip finished 38th, Esmeralda Garcia was 121st, Rubi Garcia 125th, Allie Gonzales 130th, Maddie Kneip 163rd, Gracie Arteaga 167th, Valentina Ibarra 261st and Melissa Gonzalez 317th. There were 345 runners and 42 teams in the race.

The varsity boys’ team finished 27th points in the 1A-4A division with 664 points and were the fourth-best Class 2A school in the race.

Individually, Zachary Cortez finished 40th, Brayden Hanzelka was 119th, Bryan Pedroza 131st, Alfredo Ochoa 235th, Joshua Martinez 238th, Anthony Gonzales 246th, Jacob Molina 325th and Wesley Holub 346th. There were 358 runners and 41 teams in the race.

The cross country teams will compete Saturday, Sept. 28, in the Weimar Cross Country Meet.
