The Brazos Cougars looked prime for playoff success heading into their last district game of the year against Danbury last week riding a four-game winning streak. The streak toward the end of the season was a welcome change of consistency after an up-and-down season they were having before.
The streak began after they narrowly lost 8-6 to Danbury and it brought their record to 12-9-1 heading into their last regular season game against the Panthers. The Cougars couldn’t cap off their season with a win and fell to Danbury 5-3
The loss marked the first time since March 26 Brazos was unable to score more than three runs. Danbury was competing with the Cougars for second place in the district with East Bernard already winning first place with just one district loss.
With the win, Danbury finished the season in second place in the district and Brazos finished third with a 7-3 district record. They finished the season with a 12-10-1 record.
Brazos will play Hardin for their first playoff series which will begin this weekend. The Hornets were second in their district with a 9-3 record in the group and have a 3-1 record in the month of April.
