Classic Flowers in Acrylic course comes to Blinn-Schulenburg this fall

Blinn College will offer a new community education course this fall on the Schulenburg Campus.

“Classic Flowers in Acrylic” will teach students about renowned artists, their influences, lives, and works as students create replicas of their famous flower paintings. Instructor Terry Ehler will demonstrate various brush strokes and lead students through the acrylic painting process.

“We are excited that local artist Terry Ehler will teach this new leisure learning class because several area residents had requested an acrylic class,” said Loraine Orellana, Blinn-Schulenburg Distance and Community Education Coordinator. “Painting a replica of a classic flower seemed like the perfect opportunity to learn the various brush strokes and techniques.”

The course runs Oct. 3-31 and meets every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The course will cover artists Georgia O’Keeffe, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and Catherine Able, and acrylic paintings of a poppy, sunflowers, and lilies. The course costs $89 and includes all paints and supplies.

“The course will teach students painting techniques and explores the history of each painting and the artist behind it,” Ehler said. “A lot of people have seen these famous paintings, but don’t know the story behind it, and that is what makes this course interesting.”

Registration is required. To register or learn more about the course, contact Loraine Orellana at 979-743-5237 or
