Charles M. Hluchan, age 90, of Sealy, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. He was born on March 18, 1929, in Sealy to Henry and Frances Hluchan.
Charlie was a lifetime resident of Sealy. After graduating from Sealy High School, he served in the United States Army. After his military service, he followed in his father’s footsteps working as a barber in Sealy until his retirement.
He was an avid sports fan, playing football, baseball, basketball and tennis in high school. He later coached the Immaculate Conception Blue Jays junior high football team for several years as well as pee wee and little league baseball teams in Sealy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, as well as amateur radio, earning the call sign N5XVY.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Frances Hluchan, siblings Claudia Moore, Mary Childers, Billy Hluchan, and Dorothy Gilleland. He is survived by his wife Lottie Ann Hluchan, sister and brother in law Ann and Alvin Marek, son and daughter in law Charles and Elaine Hluchan, granddaughter Michelle Manning and her husband Wes, granddaughter Laura Grimsrud and her husband Jeff, and great-grandson Ethan Grimsrud. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at Knesek Family Funeral Chapel, 768 Fourth St. in Sealy starting at 5 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Eric Pitre officiating. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
