Carol J. Havel, 76, of Sealy, Texas, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018. For the past four months Carol resided near her daughters and received excellent care at Brookdale Assisted Living-The Heights, Houston, Texas while battling end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Born Nov. 11, 1941 in Belleville, Ill., Carol was the daughter of the late William F. Suever and Elizabeth Suever. She was raised in O'Fallon, Ill. where she graduated from O'Fallon Township High School in 1959. She married the love of her life, James L. Havel, Sr. on Dec. 27, 1961 in Freeburg, Illinois. When Jim was transferred to Houston, Texas in August 1974 while working for Shell Oil Company, he and Carol chose to live and raise their family in Sealy and later Cat Spring, Texas.
Jim preceded her in death at the age of 43 on Feb. 28, 1984. Carol is survived by her son James L. Havel, Jr. and wife Rita Tuttle Havel, Frydek, Texas; two daughters, Laura Havel, Houston, Texas and Lynn Dechiro and husband Carlo Dechiro, Houston, Texas; two brothers, Robert L. Suever and wife Marilyn Suever of Gravois Mills, Missouri and William H. Suever and wife Suzanne Suever of Hutto, Texas; former sister-in-law Eileen Suever and two sisters-in-law, Beverly Groth and husband Roger Groth of Edwardsville, Ill. and Donna Kessler and husband David Kessler of Anna, Illinois and brother-in-law Thomas J. Havel and wife Mary Havel of Redbud, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.
Carol worked for many years at Citizens State Bank in Sealy, Texas and later retired from working at Brenham State School in Brenham, Texas. Carol was an avid gardener who could grow anything. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends.
A memorial service and rosary were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Frydek, Texas on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018 beginning at 2 p.m.; rosary to be said at 3:30 p.m. Carol will be cremated and put to rest with her husband in Freeburg, Ill.
