Candyland Christmas at Fantasy of Lights

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – thanks to the Sealy Community Foundation.

The 32nd annual Fantasy of Lights brought out a record number of people for a 5K fun run, ice-skating rink, bounce house, face painting, softball tournament and barbecue cook-off. The weekend brought near-perfect weather and culminated with a parade through downtown Sealy.

“It was a wonderful weekend,” said Melanie Willingham, president of Sealy Community Foundation. “We had 20 more floats than last year, more gingerbread participants and a record number of runners.”

Families spent the entire day at Levine Park, eating from food trucks and getting ready for the big event, a parade through downtown Sealy.

Kids chanted “Sealy ISD” as the 12-1 Tiger football team rode through downtown in the parade after losing their first game of the season in the playoffs the night before.

Many said it was the best Fantasy of Lights ever.

“Great job Fantasy of Lights committee,” Karla Kitterman wrote on Facebook.

Resident Michelle Pitts said the event gets better every year.

“Great day at the Fantasy of Lights and great parade,” Pitts said. “Looking forward to next year, always something different.”

The ice-skating rink, sponsored by Balcon Builders, was the something different this year. Kids were able to rent ice skates and take a stab at the rink. Although not many triple axels were caught on camera, the youth seemed to enjoy the new addition.

“The participants went all out with the Candyland theme,” Willingham said. “If they love Candyland, just wait until they hear next year’s theme. We would like to thank all of our sponsors, especially Balcon, who gave so generously that we were able to bring in our first-ever ice-skating rink, and Austin County State Bank for being our parade sponsor and decorating such an awesome float. It is so great to see local businesses be willing to help us make this such a great event.”

Sealy Community Foundation hosts Fantasy of Lights and Sealybration each year. The events raise funds for scholarships and nonprofit organizations.

Winners of this year’s parade, sponsored by Austin County State Bank, included the following:
