On a warm and muggy Friday, opening night for both teams, the Faith Academy Knights and the Dime Box Longhorns, the visitors prevailed, 26-23.

The Longhorns received the opening kick and scored on their initial possession, but failed on the extra point.

On their second possession, Dime Box scored and converted on the one-point point-after try (PAT) to make the score 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Knights followed that score with a touchdown of their own. Blaze Byler scored on an 8-yard run following the blocks of a trio of Knights. Nathan Figueroa kicked the two-point conversion to close the gap to five points; 13-8.

The Longhorns added a touchdown and one-point PAT prior to halftime to make the score 20-8 at the break.

Early in the third quarter, Byler plowed over from the 4 and then threw a pass to Jacob Henderson for the one-point conversion to tighten the game at 20-15.

Dime Box answered with a TD of their own, but failed on the PAT expanding their lead to 26-15.

The Knights came right back to score on a Byler 1-yard plunge and Figueroa again kicked the two-pointer.

The game ended with the Longhorn quarterback kneeling to run out the clock for a Dime Box victory.

Leading the Knights in tackles was Kaleb Shepherd with seven. A quintet of defenders recorded four tackles each.

Offensively, Byler rushed for 82 yards on 16 carries and scored all three touchdowns. He also had 65 yards on a kick return and recovered an onside kick.

Figueroa had six completions in 13 attempts for 52 yards and kicked a pair PATs. Kaleb Shepherd was the leading receiver with two catches for 20 yards.

The Knights will be back in action this Friday as they travel to Conroe to take on Conroe Covenant.
