Brazos students safe after accident

A Brazos ISD bus was hit on its way to school Monday morning, but no injuries were reported.

The accident occurred in Orchard, about four miles from Brazos High School, on Highway 36 when a PT Cruiser was coming off of FM 1489 and hit the side of the bus.

“Our bus was heading down 36 toward our high school and a car coming off of 1489, which goes toward Simonton, came out and hit the entrance doors of the bus,” said Brazos Superintendent Brian Thompson Monday afternoon. “Middle and high school students were on the bus and EMS was called but they determined there were no injured students that needed to be transported away from the accident.”

The roughly 15 to 20 students were indeed a little tardy getting to school, but they all made it that day.

“I’m just glad everyone’s OK,” Thompson added. “The students’ safety always comes first.”

The superintendent said the Department of Public Safety is conducting the investigation.
