Janis Mueller and Sandra Schwenke presented a program on finishing quilts at the Bluebonnet Area Quilt Guild’s August meeting.
The Bluebonnet Area Quilt Guild of Bellville members were treated to an informative program on finishing quilts at its August meeting. Mueller and Schwenke from the Friendship Quilt Guild of Brenham presented the program and showed several examples of binding techniques, gave some formulas for computing yardage for binding, and showed several examples of good and not so good binding, along with many great tips for finishing quilts. The group also was We are also delighted to see some of the quilts that were made by some of the ladies from Brenham.
Guild members are busy getting ready for the Austin County Fair, making quilts and homemade items for display and signing up to help set up before the fair. They are also encouraged to make cuddle quilts to donate to local charities and blocks to be sewn into Quilts of Valor for veterans. In September, the group will be turning in mystery blocks for this year’s quilting challenge.
The next meeting will be Sept. 17 at the Sens Activity Center, 200 Briar Ridge Drive in Bellville, starting at 6 p.m. For more information about the guild, please check out our web site www.baqg.org. Carolyn Springer of Quilts from Mulberry Lane will present a program on the history of quilts and quilt making. She and her husband Donald will show quilts that they have collected over the years, with quilts that range in age from the 1850s to the 1940s.
