Bellville – The Austin County Fair Association announced some big changes for the 91st Annual County Fair during a Jan. 30 event.
Most prominently, the Fair will extend to a 10-day event. The dates for the 2018 Austin County Fair will be Oct. 5-14.
While the planning committee is still working on a final schedule, an important event change is the Austin County Fair Queen competition will move from Thursday evening to the evening of the first Saturday (Oct. 6). According to Fair President Robert Winkelmann, “this will allow the Fair Queen to be queen for the entire fair and will give all of the queens more opportunities to participate in the various fair events.”
The annual 5K Stampede will move to the morning of Oct. 6. The barbecue cook-off, margarita and chef’s choice contests will all move to the first weekend of the Fair – Oct. 5 and 6. And the Summer Music Fest is canceled for 2018.
As additional details are finalized, more information will be forthcoming.
