Betty Lou Kelm Richter

Betty Lou Kelm Richter was born Nov. 27, 1942 to parents Walter William and Roline Tudie (Helm) Kelm in the Long Point Community, Washington County, Texas. She was baptized January 10, 1943 at Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. Fred Mgrebroff and confirmed April 14, 1957 by Rev. R. J. Weber at Zion Lutheran. Her confirmation verse was John 14:6 "Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Betty grew up on a dairy farm (103 acres) in Washington County, Texas. She attended rural school at Harrisburg and then graduated with honors from Brenham High School in 1961. She then attended Massey Business College in Houston.

She lived with her aunt and uncle, Benita and Bill Kellogg in Houston while attending school. She worked at Texaco Inc. and met Robert M. Richter at Trinity Lutheran Church at Houston, Texas in 1963. Later that year she married Robert on November 23, 1963 at Zion Lutheran in Brenham, Texas. Rev. R. J. Weber performed the double ring ceremony.

Betty and husband Robert started their marriage in Houston. After 11 years they moved to Wharton where they lived 18 months before making their home in Sealy. This union was blessed with three children, had its ups and downs but always had God and Christian friends nearby. Betty gave birth to two children in Houston, Lori Beth and Glenn Robert. A third child, Hollie Joy, was born in Wharton and also died at the age of three months while the family resided there.

Betty's life revolved around pleasing her husband and raising her children. She was involved with the 4-H Club, both as a member and as an adult leader. Betty also served as treasurer of the Austin County 4-H Adult Leaders Association. She was a stay-at-home mom while the children were young and entered the work force when they became high school age.

She was employed by Bison Building Materials and as office secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church. Betty was involved at Trinity Lutheran Church, being a charter and current member of the Altar Guild. She was a member of TLC Ladies Aid and assisted Mops at TLC. She also served as teacher at the weekday school of Trinity and was a member of the Sealy Cotton Bowl Quilters.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, of 54 years; daughter and husband, Lori and Allen Jurecka of Katy; son Glenn Richter of Bellville; grandchildren, Paul Jurecka, Philip Jurecka, Luke Jurecka, and Jack Richter. Betty is also survived by the following brother in-laws and sister in-laws: Helmuth and Bernice Schuetze and Lawrence and Burnies Richter, all of Houston. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Roline Kelm; sister Walline Kelm; daughter Hollie Joy Richter, and daughter in-law Jody Richter.

Visitation was held at Trinity Lutheran Church Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10am at Trinity Lutheran Church interment followed at Sealy Cemetery.
