Austin County officials honored at statewide meeting


The annual meeting of Texas Soil and Water Conservation District Directors is a meeting that provides Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) directors, SWCD employees and other conservation partners the opportunity to examine issues relevant to the conservation of the state’s natural resources. Speakers from the local, state and national levels addressed attendees concerning a wide variety of agricultural and conservation topics.

The 77th Annual Meeting of Soil and Water Conservation District Directors was held Oct. 23-24 at Moody Gardens Hotel and Convention Center in Galveston.

Directors attending the Meeting from Austin County Soil & Water Conservation District were chairman Charles Goeke, secretary Ira Lapham, and director Kenneth Blezinger. Also attending with them were their spouses, Vickie Goeke, Pauline Lapham, and Charisse Blezinger. Austin County SWCD District Clerk Connie Johnson and NRCS District conservationist Brad Kieschnick also attended.

The meeting consisted of several sessions during the course of two days, one of which was the Meeting of Area Three of which Austin County SWCD is a part of. During this session, Austin County Soil and Water Conservation District was presented with an award for 75 years of Public Service.

Accepting this award were Directors of Austin County Soil and Water Conservation District. The Austin County SWCD will continue to provide the landowners the necessary information and programs to promote good conservation in Austin County.
