Austin County 4-H has good showing at Food Challenge

Thirteen 13 Austin County 4-Hers participated Jan. 6 in the District 11 Food Show and Food Challenge competition in Victoria.

The theme for this year’s activities was “Fresh from the Farm,” which placed emphasis on the importance of family mealtime. The theme allowed the participants the opportunity to explore many aspects of food preparation, food safety, creative recipes and more. Team “Southern Style” (Maddison Diezi, Samantha Diezi and Sophia Vykukal) placed third overall in the Fruit and Vegetable category and Team “Food Squad” (Jacie Menefee, Katelyn Krenek, Maggie Davoody and Brily Helms) placed third overall in the Nutritious Snack category in the Junior/Intermediate Food Challenge Division.

At the Food Show, the following youth received blue placement awards for their fantastic participation; Blake Makowsky, Madison Makowsky, Makayla Makowsky, Jillian Edwards, Silas Edwards, and Lexi Higgins.
