Albina Frances Machala Mazac was born in Sealy to John and Frances Machala on Dec. 21, 1914. She was raised in Sealy and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School and received all of her sacraments at Immaculate Conception. She married Louis John Mazac on October 27, 1936 and was a homemaker all of her life. She was a member of KJZT and Altar Society.

She passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 27, 2018, in Sealy at the age of 103.

Survivors are children Lorene (George) Berckenhoff, Daniel Mazac and Georgie Brast. Grandchildren Mark (Emily) Mazac, Wesley (Detra) Mazac, DeeDee (Matt) Green, Terry (Angel) Mazac, Stephen (Tina) Berckenhoff, Michael (Tami) Berckenhoff, Kirk (Lisa) Brast, and Donna (Matt) Underwood. She was also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

When her first grandchild tried to say “Granny,” he would always call her “Gingie”. From then on, she became Gingie to all of her grandchildren. Albina loved to grow things especially roses of many colors, a huge vegetable garden that she would harvest and share with family, friends and neighbors. What she couldn’t give away she would can the rest. She loved sewing especially making beautiful quilts.

She was a resident of Veranda House for the past 2 ½ years where she would gaze through her window and look at her beloved church as she prayed. She attended mass every Friday morning and most Saturday evenings. The daily visits by her children would consist of going outside and sitting on the porch or going for walks to the church prayer garden, then going into the chapel to pray.

We would like to thank the caring employees at Veranda House for their loving care and for “adopting” Albina as their grandma.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 1, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy at 10:00 am with Rev. Eric Pitre celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of committal.
