After competing in the area track meet in Columbus in mid-April, Sealy High School had 10 track and field competitors advance to the regional meet. The meet was held in Kingsville last weekend and was the final one before the state meet that will be held in Austin on May 11.
Of the 10 who competed in the regional meet, six Sealy athletes advanced to the state meet. Noe Navarro, Kevon Kesee, Tyrek McNeese and Ivan Bolden placed first in the 4x200 and the 4x100 team made up of Kesee, McNeese, Bolden and Matthew Lord placed second.
Raegan Newsome was the other state qualifier in track events placing third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.77 seconds. In field events, Ivan Bolden placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 45 feet three inches.
Tyrek McNeese also had success in the field events placing first in both the long and triple jump. He had a long jump distance of 23 feet three inches and a triple jump distance of 47 feet nine inches.
McNeese is the first athlete in Sealy High School history to advance to the state track meet in four different events. It marks yet another accomplishment in a season in which he has broken several personal and school records.
Matthew Lord also advanced to state after winning third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.92 which was .01 seconds behind the second-place finisher.
The state meet will be held in Austin at the University of Texas from May 11-12 with track events being run on the first day and field events on the second.
