There is always one game during a football season that will rise up and bite you where it hurts. For the Brazos Cougars, that came was last Friday when they traveled to Van Vleck.
Last week, the Sealy Team Tennis team traveled to Navasota for their first match of the season. After a close fought competition, Sealy had their first victory of the season with a score of 10-9 over Navasota.
The Faith Academy Knights hosted the High Island Cardinals on Thursday, Sept. 21, at SAB Stadium. The Knights jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Knights eventually won the contest 56-8, at halftime.
The Sealy Junior High 8th A team traveled to Brenham this Saturday, Sept. 16th and played some very tough competition at the Brenham Tournament. They were first matched up with Weimar and came out strong and defeated them 25-18 and 25-20.
The way Sealy Head Football Coach Clint Finley sees Friday’s loss to Bay City, it is games like these that will help this team down the road. “Bay City is a very good football team, and they are very veteran football team that have played a lot of varsity football games together,” Finley said.
The Sealy boys’ and girls’ varsity cross country teams continued their hot starts to the 2023 season by capturing first place at the Bellville Cross Country meet Saturday, Sept. 2.
Now the games really count. Sealy will begin its push for a playoff berth this Friday when the Tigers travel to West Columbia to take on the Roughnecks at 7 p.m.
The Faith Academy Lady Knights started the week at home with a big match against 6A Incarnate Word of Houston. The Lady Knights competed very well to keep up with the Lady Cardinals point for point, but fell short in the end in a 0-3 set loss; 21-25, 23-25,19-25.
Jarvse Dickerson rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns in leading Brazos to a 26-20 overtime win over Nixon-Smiley last Friday in the final tune-up before the start of a rigorous district schedule. Nixon-Smiley ran out to a 14-0 halftime lead over Brazos and held a 20-7 lead as the two teams headed for the fourth quarter.
