The Sealy male Tigers went on to go undefeated in their midseason tournament in Huffman this past weekend from Jan. 12 through Jan.

The 23rd-ranked Blinn College women’s basketball team’s “the best offense is a good defense” approach continued to pay dividends Saturday as the Buccaneers stifled Paris Junior College en route to a 59-45 victory at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

The Brazos Cougars have started 24-3A play with a 2-3 record in district action. Last Friday, Brazos rolled over Harmony 105-52 on the road.

Sealy placed 10 players on the first and second team all-district teams for District 10-4A while district champion and state finalist Bellville placed 12 players on the team including capturing the District MVP and Offensive MVP honors. Sealy sophomore Cooper Osborne captured the Newcomer of the Year honors out of the district.

The Brazos Cougars may not have had the football season they wanted but the team did rake in some post season honors when the 2023 All-District teams were announced. Brazos juniors Rafael Almaraz and Grant Marvin were named Utility Co-Players of the Year.

The Sealy girl’s soccer team lost to Vidor 4-0 in the final of the Waller Classic Tournament last Saturday, Jan. 6, placing second overall in the varsity girl’s soccer competition. Held between Jan.

The Sealy girl’s softball all-stars took center stage in the community with their run to the Softball World Series to begin the second half of sports in Austin County. The month was concluded as the Bellville Brahmas made a run all the way to the Class 4A Division II state championship game in Arlington where the Brahmas fell short to Gilmer 28-26.

The first part of 2023 in the Austin County sports scene saw playoff runs by teams in basketball soccer and baseball and ended with Sealy Head Football Coach Shane Mobley announcing he was leaving the program for a position in Peaster.

Blinn College forward David Garcia continues to reap the rewards of a tremendous sophomore season. Following a historic campaign for the Buccaneer men’s soccer team, Garcia has been named to the 2023 United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division I Men’s All-America team.
