Blinn College’s freshman livestock judging team dominated the Dixie National Collegiate Beef Judging Contest, winning the overall title by 70 points and placing five individuals in the top 10 in that division.

Boling outlasts Brazos 52-47 in double OT

In a battle for the fourth and final playoff berth out of District 24-3A, Boling outlasted Brazos 52-47 in double overtime to punch its ticket for the playoffs and eliminate the Cougars from the playoff chase in a contest played in East Bernard.

Sealy boys split pair

The Sealy boys soccer squad split a pair of district contests this past week to open up its district season. After opening with a 5-0 win over the Harmony School of Discovery, Sealy came back and finished with a 1-1 tie with Bellville.

Sealy girls soccer looks to rebound this week at home It may not have been the ideal way to start the season but it might have been just the spark the Sealy Lady Tigers need to get the district season moving in the right direction. After a long layoff, Sealy opened up district play last Friday with a loss to Bellville as the Lady Brahmas held on for the win with a 2-1 shootout victory over Sealy.

There are certain people in life that tend to do so many things all at once it makes you question, just where on earth do they find all that time? For Sealy High School graduating senior Emmy Sue McDaniel, that time is something she’s made the most of. A member of the Lady Tigers’ running cross country team, tennis team, a 1st Lieutenant Sealy Tigerette, FFA program member showing livestock, scramble heifer participant, dairy cattle judge, Austin County Fair Queen pageant contestant, youth gymnastics coach and future meteorologist, the real question is: what doesn’t Emmy do? Described by her grandmother Sonja Talbot as someone who “loves life,” McDaniel has always pushed herself academically, as well as strived to be a part of whatever she set her mind to.

Authorities arrest man after crime spree

Austin County authorities arrested a Sealy man April 9 in connection with a series of crimes in the area. Joseph Mesa, 35, of Sealy, was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery (first degree felony), deadl y con duct (third degree felony), aggravated kidnapping (first degree felony), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (second degree felony), attempted murder (second degree felony) and interference with an emergency call (class A misdemeanor).
