Sealy Jr. Girls made history last week by being the first Sealy softball team to win a District 13 International tournament.

Try to think about the heaviest item or object you’ve ever lifted in your life; Was it heavier than 545 pounds? That’s the exact same weight Jeremiah Metzgar deadlifted in order to become the first-ever powerlifting state champion in Sealy High School history. On his second and last ever trip to state, Metzgar clinched the THSPA championship title in the 148 lbs.

The Blinn College-Brenham Campus was a welcome stop for 4-H members headed to the state livestock judging contest. Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program hosted a come-and-go mini-camp Monday that drew more than 100 participants who qualified for the State 4-H Roundup livestock judging contest at Texas A&M University.

FitnessFX was an official host for the Memorial Day Murph Challenge. The Murph is the Official annual fundraiser of the LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, presented by Forged The LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation (501c3) was founded in 2007 by Michael’s parents, Dan and Maureen Murphy, along with Michael’s brother, John. Michael was an avid reader who felt that education was key. In fact, his favorite saying was “Education will set you free.”

Blinn College freshman Tanner Reaves’ outstanding season has been certified with a selection as an NJCAA Division I first-team All-American. Reaves, an infielder from Bonham, Texas, excelled during an outstanding season of Buccaneer baseball.

Mobley built success on binding with players, community When the news started to ripple through the Sealy community, it was felt by all of those that follow the Tiger sports faithfully. Sealy Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Shane Mobley resigned his post with the district to accept an athletic director’s position with Peaster ISD.

Bellville Little League will install new lights at its main baseball field, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and city of Bellville. The Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $31,950 in matching funds from the league, will enable the league to replace an outdated and unsafe lighting system with new steel poles and LED lights.

Tegeler Chevrolet is partnering with Greater Sealy Little League in Sealy. Tegeler Chevrolet has joined forces with the national Chevrolet Youth Baseball & Softball program to provide new equipment, invitations to free instructional clinics and an opportunity for community members to earn donations for their league via a test drive fundraiser.

The Texas Senate adjourned June 7 in memory of Colton Kaase, a sophomore track and field student- athlete for Colorado State University. Kaase was found dead in his apartment June 6. His cause of death has yet to be determined.
