Sealy High School’s lone representative at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association’s Division 2 State Championship, Jeremiah Metzgar Jr., recorded personal-record lifts and finished seventh in the 148-pound weight class.

Metzgar improved on his previous personal best – set at the Region 4 Championship where he qualified for state – by 30 pounds where he added 20 pounds to his squat and five pounds to both his bench press and deadlift.

From his first results of the season, Feb. 1, he added 60 pounds to his squat, 50 pounds to his bench press and 75 pounds on his deadlift for a total increase of 185 pounds.

His new best trailed the class champion, Sinton’s Jerek Sanchez (1,600 total pounds), by nearly 400 pounds and the overall individual champion, Needville’s Landon Henke (1,945 total pounds) from the 308-pound weight class.
