Body

T.J. Mills Stadium and Mark A. Chapman Field hosted the District 24-4A Championships last Tuesday (prelims) and Wednesday (finals) and the host Sealy Tigers earned the girls’ team championship and finished as runners-up in the boys’ team competition behind 11 individual champions.

The Lady Tigers were powered to the district crown thanks in part to seven first-place finishes from six athletes across four running events and three field events.

Freshmen Taniah Coleman (100-meter dash: 12.73), Annabelle Williams (800- meter run: 2:33.26) and Allyson Guerrero (1600-meter run: 5:44.58; 3200-meter run 12:56.21) earned a top spot in their events in their first time on the varsity circuit. In the field events, senior Ally Dickens (Discus: 98’ 6”) and junior Breanna Brandes (Pole Vault: 10’ 6”) both claimed the top spots to represent Sealy.

For the Tigers that finished as district runners-up, four athletes earned a district championship across three running events and two field events.

Xavier Olvera (800-meter run: 2:04.10; 1600-meter run: 4:43.36) and Daniel Medrano (3200-meter run: 10:56.60) continued their success from the cross-country season and earned a district championship on the track circuit. Jonathan Monterroza (Discus: 135’) and Blake Pleasant (Pole Vault: 11’) also grabbed first-place finishes in field events to boost Sealy in the team standings.

The top four athletes in each event punched a ticket to the Area Championship April 14, which will also be held at T.J. Mills Stadium in Sealy. The Lady Tigers had 18 top-four finishers that earned a spot in the next round and the Tigers had 11 athletes register top-four finishes to advance to the Area Championship.

Both Bellville teams earned third in the team competition of the District Championship. The Brahmas had first-place finishes in three events and Neelie Schiel won both the 100- and 300-meter hurdle races to claim the only two individual district championships for the Brahmanettes.

Tyler Fishbeck (200-meter dash: 21.99) and Colton Kaase (300-meter dash: 39.79) won individual events in addition to the 4x100-meter relay team of Fishbeck, Trevon Green, Richard Reese and Robert Briggs with a time of 42.80.
