Astros blast-off in doubleheader against Yankees

HOUSTON — Following the MLB All-Star break, the Houston Astros hosted a doubleheader against the New York Yankees, who sit atop of the league's standings, in Game 2 with a 7-5 win.  

Designated hitter and American League all-star, Yordan Alvarez, was activated from the injured list after missing the final seven games before the break due to a hand injury and couldn’t have been back at a better time.

Four Astros named all-stars

Sunday, July 4, Major League Baseball announced the All-Star selections that will participate in the Midsummer Classic in Colorado July 13 and four Houston Astros were among the honorees. Ryan Pressly, Carlos Correa and Michael Brantley will join Jose Altuve, who tied a franchise record after he earned a seventh All-Star nod.

The Houston Astros racked up a 10-game streak where hitters recorded multiple home runs to gain ground atop the American League West standings. After a Monday-night win over Baltimore, Houston took sole ownership of first place and earned the best record in the AL at 44-28.
