I come from a solidly bluecollar background. My dad was a carpenter and my mom was a waitress who eventually completed nursing school when I was in my early teens.

The downtown calendar for Sealy has stayed full with lots of help from the Shops of Downtown Sealy’s help. A couple times a year, the downtown businesses have taken it upon themselves to get together to keep downtown active by putting together monthly events.

Before Herb Collins retired, he owned a pawn shop up in the city. A successful pawn shop. And one of the ways he likes to repay society for his good fortune is to speak to the fifth graders at our local elementary school during Career Week

You may have recently seen or read in the news where more than 212,000 illegal immigrants were stopped by US Customs and Border Protection attempting to cross the US-Mexico border last month; that is a 12.6% increase over June.

Let’s talk about school car line. Assuming the average school year is 169 days and the average parent spends 15 minutes per trip (this is being generous), then parents spend approximately 5,070 minutes per year in car line. I’ve spent approximately 1,859 HOURS of my life in car line. I could talk about car line for days.

“The boat or ship’s wake always reaches the shore long after the vessel has passed.” In this case, the SHIP is the recent growth the city has experienced and the WAKE is the lack of infrastructure to support this growth.

Have you ever worked with someone or made a friend who spoke a different language? In high school and college, I worked in a few different restaurant kitchens. Almost immediately, I asked some of my Spanishspeaking co-workers to teach me the most inappropriate words and phrases in their mother tongue.
