Louis Nelson Cox 96 of Sealy departed this world for Heaven on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023. He was born on Oct. 23, 1926, one of twin sons born to Edward and Edith (Smith) Cox in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

He graduated from Guthrie High School in 1944. Louis and his brother Lloyd were drum majors for the Guthrie High School Band. He was also in the ROTC.

He attended the University of Oklahoma before enlisting in the United States Merchant Marines. He served in the South Pacific transporting supplies and troops to the war zone. Louis’s mother wrote a letter to President Roosevelt requesting that her twin sons be allowed to sail on the same ship because they had always been together. Her wish was granted by the President. Louis was Honorably Discharged in 1946.

He then returned to Guthrie where he met Dorothy Hannah. They were married April 5, 1947. Together, they built their first home and started a family. There were two children born to them. Pam and Eddie.

They had a wonderful marriage that lasted 65 years.

He went to work for Honeywell Inc. in 1952. A job he loved and thrived in. He was awarded several leadership and sales awards. His achievements required moving the family several times from Oklahoma to Kansas to Texas. After 40 years he retired.

Retirement from Honeywell became a new challenge and soon, he was working for Daniel Industries. Again, traveling and this time perfecting a portable gas chromatograph.

In 1978 Lou and Dorothy purchased property in Sealy and built a home. They enjoyed the Sealy Country Club and serving the community. Louis served on the Sealy Chamber of Commerce and as Post Commander (2001-2005) at the Sealy American Legion Post 442.

Louis was a 32nd Degree Mason form Guthrie, Ok.

He loved boating and camping. Starting in tents and over time fully graduating to motorhomes.

Lous and Dorothy were member of the United Methodist Church in San Felipe.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Dorothy, his twin brother Lloyd and Ken Cox, nephew.

Louis is survived by his children: daughter Pam Grueber (Roy) of The Woodlands Tx, son Ed Cox (Katie) of Chappell Hill, Tx, sister- in-law Velma Cox of Guthrie, Ok, nephew John Cox of Guthrie, Ok, niece Marilyn Callis of Oklahoma City, Ok, brother-in-law Dale Hannah of Norwich, Ks.

Grandchildren: Chad Grueber (Tonya) of Mobile, Al, Eric Gruber (Mandi) of Lake Charles, La, Melanie Koy (Thomas) of Sealy, Tx, and Jason Cox of Wharton, Tx.

Great – Grandchildren: Alyssa Martin (Jonathon), Adam Grueber, Bailey Koy, Kinsley Koy, Braden Koy, Kasen Koy, and many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by those who love him.

Visitation will be on Oct. 18 from 4 –7 p.m. at Knesek Family Funeral Chapel 768 Fourth St, Sealy.

Funeral Service will be on October 19th at 10am at the United Methodist Church 1405 Front St. San Felipe. Pastor Joel McMahon – officiating.
