Body

John was born to Willie and Annie Lastovica on June 15, 1934, on the family farm in Frydek, Texas. He had 2 brothers, Leonard and Raymond. John met his future wife, Frances Belunek when they were children in school. They started dating when she was 15. John usually had a carload of girls because he had a driver’s license. They married a few years later. John and Frances had two children Madeline (Maggie) and Gary.

He worked at Riverside and later became a welder. In the early years, he traveled and welded several rice dryers and silos in various parts of Texas. Then he got a job in Houston where they raised their children. They returned to Frydek in 1979. After retirement, he helped take care of elderly parents and did local welding jobs. He was a member of the KJT and comanager of the kitchen for the Grotto Celebration for many years.

Throughout his life, John enjoyed gardening, raising animals, making BBQ, cooking, dancing, hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved being on his tractor. John took great care of his family. He was a great storyteller. We will miss his stories.

He is survived by his daughter Maggie, son Gary (Rhonda), brothers Leonard Lastovica (Becky), Raymond Lastovica (Tommy), sister-in-law Lillie Stroud (Komanche), brother-in-law Larry Stroud (Susan), grandchildren Stacey Lastovica, Stephanie Self (Sean), John Lastovica (Fiance Preslie Cox) and great-granddaughters Clara Grace Self and Julie Ann Self. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and many relatives that he adored.

Pall bears are John Lastovica, Sean Self, Joey Watson, Ryan Beavers, Charles Lastovica, Ricky Lastovica, Kenneth Mlcak and honorary pall bearer Allen Stroud.

John will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We want to thank everyone who visited and helped John. He so enjoyed talking with you.
