John Clifford Clauson of Sealy, Texas passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the age of 78. John was born on July 19, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Donald and Evelyn (Staley) Clauson.

John was born the youngest of three brothers. His parents, both educators, left Arkansas for greater opportunities in Texas settling in the Houston area in the late 1950’s. John attended Reagan High School before graduating from the newly opened Waltrip High School in 1961. He would go on to attend the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

On June 19, 1970, he married Judith Ann Breaux. They were blessed with sons Anthony Joseph (A.J.) in 1979 and Andrew John in 1984. They made their home in Conroe and Mont Belvieu before settling in Sealy over two decades ago.

John enjoyed a 25-year career with Exxon, ultimately becoming ExxonMobil, before retiring in 2005. His time there took him from Trinity Bay in early years to offices in Conroe, Greenspoint and Katy. In later years he supported the rollout of updated IT hardware to field offices from Oklahoma to the King Ranch and beyond. Along the way he built many lasting friendships which carried into his time as a member of the ExxonMobil Retiree Club of Rural West.

From weekends building barns to early morning trips to rabbit shows, Dad faithfully supported Mom’s early equine endeavors and eventually our own show rabbit adventures. He was our coach, trainer, and ultimately biggest fan from peewee football through high school. His attention to detail and inquisitive nature served him well in his career and were major influences on our own education and career paths. Before the days of Google and YouTube how-to videos, being Dad’s assistant was how you figured something out.

Mom and Dad were married nearly 51 years prior to her passing in April 2021. As much as we selfishly wish we could have kept Dad here with us longer, we take solace in that they are together again for eternity. Their departure leaves a hole in the lives of family, friends and beloved pets.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Judy, parents: Donald and Evelyn Clauson and brothers: Don and Norman.

He is survived by sons: A.J. and Andrew of Sealy and daughter-in-law: Ana Galvis Clauson

A Celebration of Life for Mom and Dad will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Star of Hope Mission, the Houston SPCA, or an animal rescue organization of your choice in his memory.
