James was born in Austin, Texas on April 15, 1953. His parents were Joe and Mary Filipp. He was baptized into the Catholic faith in East Bernard, Texas.

James attended school in East Bernard and Sealy and then worked with his father at Filipp’s Bar-b-que.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

James enjoyed listening to religious music and reading prayer books.
