Helen Remmert Novosad died peacefully on May 29, 2021, while her beloved husband Joe was holding her hands.

Helen was born in Sealy November 25, 1929, to Maddie Kurtz Remmert and Otto Remmert. She was the baby of three girls, ten years younger than her sisters Thelma and Evelyn, who she said spoiled her rotten.

Helen graduated salutatorian from Sealy schools. She and Joe were high school sweethearts. They adored each other. Helen tutored Joe in English, and Joe tutored Helen in math. They got through it together just as they did the remainder of their lives, always adoring each other.

Helen and Joe were married on February 17, 1947. They lived in Sealy, then in Houston while they planned their retirement to the Hill Country Helen dearly loved. They built a home on her cherished pink granite rock in Burnet on the banks of Inks Lake, where she spent the remainder of her life.

Helen and Joe’s favorite pastime was looking out of their patio doors at the pink rock, the hills, and the birds they fed. Helen was an accomplished, self-taught ornithologist. In the evenings, they had the pleasure of being visited by their neighborhood-friendly fox.

Helen and Joe enjoyed vacationing with Norbert and Thelma Dahse, Helen’s sister and brother-in-law. The four of them toured throughout the United States. She was their tour guide making all travel arrangements.

And Helen loved to read; Helen and Joe were also both accomplished genealogists and active with family reunions. They were invaluable sources of information to their family’s regarding their heritage. Helen extensively researched the Remmert and Kurtz, families. Joe even wrote a book.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Mattie and Otto Remmert, her Sisters and Brothers-in-law Thelma and Norbert Dahse and Evelyn and Ralph Frank, and her niece Joyce’s husband, Edward.

Survivors include her dearly loved Husband Joe. Her niece Joyce Krchnak, her nephew Gary Frank and his wife Cathy, her nephew Tom Gavravovic, her best friend Ashley Hamm, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Helen’s private graveside service was Friday, June 4, 2021

Pallbearers were Nephews Gary Frank and Tom Gavranovic, Great-Nephews Randall Krchnak, Stephen Frank, and Lynn Frank and Great-Great Nephew Colby Maxwell.
