City of Sealy awaiting lab results on water quality

As of Monday morning, City of Sealy officials were waiting for lab results on the city’s water quality according to Mayor Carolyn Bilski.

Residents can sign up for the city’s public notification system and be notified when the boil water notice will be officially lifted. Notification settings can also be tailored to provide updates on the city, buildings and public works by visiting cityofsealy.bbcportal.com.

Voters to determine council, board seats in May election

Austin County voters will return to the polls to let their voices be heard in the City of Sealy Council and Sealy ISD Board of Trustee races May 1.

The Sealy News will host election forums on Facebook Live for viewers and readers to hear directly from the candidates on hot-button topics in their campaigns. Each of the candidates will be recorded in an individual interview and once all of the candidates are interviewed, a full video will be created and shared to include everyone's answers.

Snow, ice, single-digit temps blanket the state

Texans from Lubbock to Longview shivered under single-digit temperatures as their week began, with snow and ice creating dangerous road conditions throughout the state. Gov. Greg Abbott issued a disaster declaration for all 254 Texas counties and urged residents to stay alert to changing weather conditions. The Texas Division of Emergency Management deployed resources from various state agencies to prepare roadways, assist motorists, remove downed trees and perform search-and-rescue operations if necessary.

Austin County Fireman Association training

Despite the freezing temperatures over the weekend, the Austin County Firefighters Association hosted an annual training session at Heitmann Memorial Training Facility in Bellville where volunteer firefighters from Austin, Colorado and Waller County went through training exercises to learn changing strategies and tactics as well as technology of fire service. Sealy Fire Chief Kenny Willingham said six Sealy firefighters attended the training.
