On Jan. 12, the Blinn College District named 2,486 students to its academic honors lists for the Fall 2020 semester.

The Texas Legislature opened quietly, which delighted everyone after the violence inside the U.S. Capitol the previous week.

As part of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout, vaccination HUBs were established in metro areas and rural county vaccination sub-HUBs were set up away from the major cities. Late last week, the Washington County Fairgrounds was identified as the closest sub-HUB available to Austin County residents and 2,000 doses started being administered on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

The filing period for May’s general election opened last week and the last day to file an application for a place on the ballot will be Friday, Feb. 12. Early voting will run from April 19 to April 27 before the May 1 election.

Last Wednesday, Jan. 13, marked 25 years since 9-year-old Amber Hagerman was abducted in Arlington. Four days later her body was found in a creek and the events ultimately led to the creation of the AMBER Alert System that recently recorded its 1,000th successful recovery.
