Early voting begins for March primaries

Austin County voters will have the opportunity to let their voices be heard as early voting has begun in Austin County with three contested local races to be decided in the Republican primary on the ballot.  

All three of the contested local races are at the county level.  

Austin County Clerk Andrea Cardenas will face the challenge of Diane Day in the Republican primary.  

Cardenas was named to fill out the term of Carrie Gregor after she resigned her post in December of 2022. Cardenas had served as chief deputy clerk in the Austin County Clerk’s office for the past eight years and has lived in Bellville since 1996.  

Day is a resident of Cat Spring and has been a lifelong resident of Austin County.  

Austin County Commissioner for Precinct 1 will see a new commissioner on court as Mark Lamp is not seeking re-election to the post. Greg Mikel and James Harrison are seeking the Republican nomination for the position.  

The final Austin County race being contested on the Republican ballot finds the battle for County Constable for Precinct 3. Incumbent Ronnie Griffin will be challenged by Terry Hall for the Republican nomination on the March primary ballot.  

State Representative for District 85 Stan Kitzman is facing the challenge of Tim Greeson in the Republican primary.  

U.S. Representative for District 10 Michael McCaul will face the challenge of Jared B. Lovelace in the Republican primary.  

On the Democratic side of the ticket, Theresa Bouisseau will face off against Keith McPhail to determine the Democratic challenger for the District 10 race in November.  

The primary early voting locations will be held at the Austin County Annex, main early voting location located at 800 E. Wendt Street Room #4 and W.E. Hill Community Center, 1000 Main Street. 

Early voting at the AC Annex will be Feb. 20-23 (Tuesday through Friday) 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Feb. 24 (Saturday) 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Feb. 25 (Sunday) 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Feb. 26 to March 1 (Monday through Friday) 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Early voting at the Hill Center will take place Feb. 20-23 (Tuesday through Friday) 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Feb 24 (Saturday) 8 a.m. to 12 noon 

Feb. 26 to March 1 (Monday through Friday) 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
