WALLIS - A motion passed by the Wallis City Council to cancel the May 6 election with three vacant positions, one being the mayor spot and two council positions being unopposed. The city has been without a mayor since the death of Mayor Dennis Diggs, who was in the midst of his second term, when he died in October 2022.

Representative Stan Kitzman (R-Pattison) announced his full support of Governor Greg Abbott’s seven emergency items. These priority items address critical issues that affect every Texan, including property tax relief, protecting liberty, education freedom, school safety, bail reform, fentanyl poisoning, and border security.

Sealy Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry March 24 The Sealy Knights of Columbus will be serving their Lenten Fish Fry Dinner Friday, March 24 at the Sealy Columbus Club Hall, located at 1310 Hwy 90, Sealy. Dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m.7:15 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Sealy Pregnancy Center.

Austin County resident Daniel Kelly addressed the Court regarding a sound ordinance. He relayed frequent complaints he has made to the Sheriff’s Department, about distressing and disturbing loud music coming from a neighbor’s property. Kelly read several dates and time periods, (going back to Christmas Eve of last year), that the loud music had occurred. He stated that his wife worked during the week, and the late night and sometimes all-night music, was so disturbing that even wearing earplugs and earmuffs, she could not rest and was driven to tears.
