Once the dust settled after the election filing deadline, two submitted names to run for Mayor of San Felipe and three more will run for the two Alderman positions on the May 1 general election ballot.

TexasSpeaks is being conducted in Austin County and across the State of Texas to allow the citizens of Texas to provide their input on the assets and issues in their communities. The local branch of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has a rich history of providing educational programs that address the most critical issues in the county and invites your participation in the TexasSpeaks process.

To begin the week, Austin County had an estimated 60 active cases of COVID-19 according to the Department of State Health Services which was a 31-case decrease from the previous week. Since the beginning of the pandemic, DSHS has recorded 1,515 total COVID-19 cases in Austin County but estimated 1,692 cases had been declared recovered.

During Feb. 22’s regular meeting, Austin County Commissioners went over building damage caused by Winter Storm Uri last week.
