TexasSpeaks allows citizens to provide community input

TexasSpeaks is being conducted in Austin County and across the State of Texas to allow the citizens of Texas to provide their input on the assets and issues in their communities. The local branch of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has a rich history of providing educational programs that address the most critical issues in the county and invites your participation in the TexasSpeaks process.

Active cases declining

To begin the week, Austin County had an estimated 60 active cases of COVID-19 according to the Department of State Health Services which was a 31-case decrease from the previous week. Since the beginning of the pandemic, DSHS has recorded 1,515 total COVID-19 cases in Austin County but estimated 1,692 cases had been declared recovered.

Thawed out from last week’s deep freeze and mostly able to bathe or shower, Texans are demanding answers as to why they were left without power during the worst of the weather emergency. At least 36 people died from the cold or carbon monoxide poisoning across the Lone Star state.
