In the May 12 edition of The Sealy News, Matt Demny’s name was not listed in the article on page 12 as one of the Brazos Independent School District Board Members who voted against accepting a bid for a weight room project. The issue failed, with two board members voting in favor, and four opposed.

SISD school bus accident

A multiple vehicle accident involving a Sealy Independent School District school bus took place on Highway 36, just a few miles North of Sealy at the intersection of Sage Lane, just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18. Persons involved were transported to the hospital from the scene, and parents were arriving to pick up their children, but, according to Sealy ISD Superintendent Brian Hallmark, none of the children on the bus were injured. “Everyone was fine, (it was) kind of a glancing blow on the side of the bus,” he said. The Texas Department of Public Safety is handling the official police report for the incident, which was not yet available at press time. Please follow this story on www.SealyNews.com for updates. The Sealy Chamber of Commerce held its annual Banquet at the Sealy Knights of Columbus Hall, 1310 Hwy 90, May 20, 2022, from 6 to 9 p.m., and the hall was packed with local politicians and other V.I.P.s for the event.

Republican candidate chosen

The unofficial results for the May 24 election have been announced. The only Austin County race in this election was a run-off for the Republican candidate who will run to be the Texas State Representative for District 85 in November.

Voters chose Stan Kitzman, who received 8,134 votes, over incumbent Phil W. Stephenson, who received 5,891 votes, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office. The newly elected candidate was formerly a Waller County Commissioner.
