The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement just before 7 p.m. regarding severe storms moving west at 20 mph.

“Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 10 miles east of Speaks to Cumings,” the statement says. “Winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with these storms.”

Locations included Sealy, Eagle Lake, Pecan Grove, East Bernard, Wallis, Fulshear, Pleak, Simonton, San Felipe, Beasley, Kendleton, Orchard and others.

“Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle,” the statement says. “These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local news outlets for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.”
