The Flood Warning League City's National Weather Service initially issued from Sunday morning into Monday night was extended to Tuesday morning according to a Saturday night announcement.

The Flood Warning is for the San Bernard River near Austin, Wharton, Fort Bend and Colorado Counties where East Bernard, Sweeny and Boling are forecast to experience moderate flooding.

According to the initial report, “At 1:00 p.m. Saturday, the stage was 15.5 feet. Flood stage is 17.0 feet. … The river is expected to rise above flood stage tomorrow morning to a crest of 17.7 feet tomorrow evening. It will then fall below flood stage early Monday afternoon. … At 17.0 feet, minor lowland flooding begins in the vicinity of the gage with minor roads along the river inundated. Backwater flooding up Britt Branch and Bratcher Slough begins.”

The announcement said the last crest of 17.7 feet was recorded Jan. 16, 2007.

In the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's report on Ecologically Significant River and Stream Segments, it says, "The San Bernard River begins near New Ulm in Southwest Austin County and flows southwesterly for 105 miles into western Brazoria County where it flows into Cedar Lake and ultimately the Gulf of Mexico."
